Which BI tools let you share AI-built content safely?
10 of 15 tools do, according to their public docs, and 4 partly.
Yes: Databricks, Snowflake, Omni, Hex, Sigma, Looker, Tableau, Power BI, Metabase, Alteryx. Partly: BigQuery, MotherDuck, Mode, Streamlit.
The question we asked: Can a user share AI-created BI content with named users or groups, with each viewer seeing only what their own permissions allow?
yes: AI-created BI content can be shared with named users or groups and each viewer sees only the data their own permissions allow (results evaluated as the viewer). Sharing that shows the author's results to everyone is partly. An asset counts as AI-created only if the AI built it, not if a person pasted AI-generated SQL into it.
Databricks
Quoted from Databricks’s docsWhen a dashboard is published with Individual data permissions, each viewer's Unity Catalog permissions determine which rows they can see.
Snowflake
Quoted from Snowflake’s docsEach viewer’s chart or table snapshot is generated under that viewer’s credentials.
Omni
Quoted from Omni’s docsEvery app inherits the access rules already in place — connection permissions, the semantic model and data permissions, and content sharing all carry over.
Hex
Quoted from Hex’s docs- App results and default states are per user, not shared across viewers.
Sigma
Quoted from Sigma’s docs If you use OAuth to authenticate users to a data source, Sigma runs the query using the viewer's identity in the data platform.
BigQuery
Quoted from BigQuery’s docsAll viewers see the rendered Data Apps based on the author's access.
Looker
Quoted from Looker’s docs- Governed data access: Data Apps query data exclusively through Looker's LookML semantic layer. Every query runs under the viewing user's Looker permissions, model access, and row-level access filters.
Tableau
Quoted from Tableau’s docsAnd you can share content freely, knowing that you won't put security at risk because data policies that apply row-level security are always enforced.
Power BI
Quoted from Power BI’s docsUse RLS in the semantic model to restrict access to rows of data, and OLS to restrict access to columns and tables, so that each person's credentials determine which data they can access.
Metabase
Quoted from Metabase’s docsWhether someone can view or edit a document and its data depends on that person's collection and data permissions.
Alteryx
Quoted from Alteryx’s docs- Select Users or Groups to share with.
MotherDuck
Quoted from MotherDuck’s docsWhen a Dive queries databases that you own but haven't shared, other users in your organization won't be able to view the Dive.
Mode
Quoted from Mode’s docsSharing reports and results in Mode is still controlled by Mode permissions, so a user who can view a report can see its results even if they could not run the query in the database themselves.
Streamlit
Quoted from Streamlit’s docsOnce you have added someone's email address to your app's viewer list, that person will be able to sign in and view your private app.
